Bees! One of the most important steps in the system of life. Without them, we would be in a tricky position. And that is what the scientific community is warning us will happen. Bees are declining in population (and have just recently been placed on the endangered species list. This is not only bad news for GOB's business, but for all of our lives.
Though GOB is primarily focused on the honey industry, that is not the only thing they're good for. "Bees are responsible for $30 Billion a year in crops," according to this article from the BBC. And this article states that bees pollinate roughly 80% of the crops in the United States. That would be massively devastating to the agricultural economy. This makes them significantly more than stingy, buzzy, honey producers. Think of how often you eat any crop. Now think of how roughly 80% of those crops were produced in large part by the actions of bees.
Now onto meat. Most of the human world eats it. And a lot of the meat we eat eats crops. Therefore, meat would be significantly more difficult to farm. That means less chicken, and less stew for Carl Weathers. There'll be no meat on THAT bone.
How do they help, again?
- They pollinate.
- The pollinated plants grow and spread.
- The pollinated plants get eaten by humans and other animals.
- The animals get eaten by humans.
- The humans survive.
But in the end, bees have been undersold for so long, that we lose sight of the value of them. And now that we finally are coming to see it, it may already bee too late.
